There is nothing like a good meal and great friends to make my weekend complete. Last night, we met both criteria (and let me just say the meal was way better than “good”) at Tierra with friends Bree & Chris. Plus, Tierra was offering a 25$ off deal on scout mob…and you know how Bree and I feel about our scout mobs…
Tierra is about 5 minutes down Piedmont avenue from our condo so we invited Bree and Chris over for some wine and appetizers before our 8 o’clock reservations. If it had not been for these friends, we may never have known that this neighborhood jewel existed. The restaurant’s exterior is pretty unassuming and definitely does not match the colorful and warm room.
We actually sat on a back porch that is converted to indoor seating in the winter time with heavy plastic draping and heat lamps.
Tierra’s menu provides “flavors of the Americas” and is inspired by South American cuisine. The dishes are regularly updated based on the chef/owner husband-wife duo’s travels to South American countries. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were bold. Each table was equip with a guide to help you navigate the menu.
We started with steamed mussels and a polenta sandwich (tomato spread and chorizo sausage between baked polenta. The starters were gone before I remembered to take a picture.
As a main course, I ordered the grilled pork with tropical salsa and spicy chipotle mashed potatoes. The pork was cooked perfectly and the sweet and spicy fruit relish really took it up a notch.
Perhaps the best part of the night was the dessert. I’ve been told that the Tres Leches cake at Tierra is on the list of 100 things you must eat in Atlanta…check!
To keep the good food and good moods going this morning, I stopped at the Bake Shop for carry-out sandwiches as a surprise for Danny. I’ll let the photos do the talking on this one…
